Mr Young undertook his undergraduate medical training at the University of Edinburgh qualifying in 1999. During his basic surgical training he also worked in England and New Zealand. His subsequent surgical training was in Edinburgh with placements in both Dundee and Glasgow.
Mr Young undertook two years of postgraduate research at the Edinburgh Breast Unit investigating the effects of aromatase inhibitors on breast cancer biology. He has been a consultant in the Edinburgh Breast Unit since 2011 and has been the Clinical Director for 6 years. He has managerial responsibility for a team of surgeons and collectively they treat almost 1000 new breast cancers annually making them one of the busiest breast units in Europe.
He is also the surgical lead for the South East Scotland Screening Programme from where a large proportion of cancers are detected. He works very closely with other disciplines including pathology, radiology, oncology and clinical genetics and currently chair the Quality Improvement Team for the breast unit and have a keen interest in the safe streamlining and improvement of patient care pathways.
Out of work he enjoys running with his dog in the hills and watching his children play tennis and football.

I am part of the Edinburgh Palliative and Supportive Care Group (EPaS – Group Lead Professor Marie Fallon) at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer (formerly the IGMM - Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine). Clinically, I hold consultant positions in Palliative Medicine at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre and St Columba’s Hospice.

Dr Campbell is a Consultant Haematologist, NRS Clinical Fellow and Honorary Senior Lecturer for Edinburgh University based at Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. She trained at Imperial College London, undertaking an intercalated BSc for which she was awarded First Class Honours. During her training she was successful in securing a Welcome Trust funded PhD which was awarded in 2018.
Dr Campbell is the SEScotland Transplant Programme Director, Cellular therapy Lead, Clinical Lead for SEScotland HMDS and NHSL's Haematology Clinical Trials Programme Lead.
She is currently PI on over 10 clinical trials including five phase 1 studies having established the Haematology Phase 1 Unit in SEScotland shortly after her appointment in 2020. She is involved in a number of collaborative research projects with colleagues in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London and have collaborated successfully with industry in grant proposals.
She is also a member of a number of National programmes including ECMC, UK Early Phase Investigator Network, NCRI AML working group, BSBMT working group, NA-ATTC working group, Scottish HMDS H@Ts Chair and Haematology Lead for the Scottish genomics review.

Dr Reid is a Palliative Medicine Consultant who has worked in cancer services since 2000. She completed specialty training and then worked for 12 years as a Palliative Medicine Consultant in the South West of England. In her last post she held various clinical, governance and educational leadership roles. Having made the decision to return home, she joined NHS Lothian in 2018. Dr Reid was appointed as Clinical Director for Palliative Care in 2019 and AMD for cancer services in 2022. She is committed to the delivery of timely, high quality and safe interventions for patients with cancer, and care that is in keeping with their individual values. She has three daughters, none of whom chose medicine.

Dr Malik is a Consultant in Clinical Oncology at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. His main clinical interests are in urological cancers especially prostate, renal, bladder and germ cell cancers. He has extensive experience in clinical trials related to urological cancers, advanced radiotherapy techniques (SABR, VMAT and brachytherapy) and has been a principal investigator on several practice change urological cancer trials.

Dr Symeonides is a Medical Oncologist and Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer (University of Edinburgh) and at the linked Edinburgh Cancer Centre (NHS Lothian); he also has a Pharmaceutical Medicine role in CRUK’s Centre for Drug Development. After clinical training in the UK (Cambridge, Edinburgh), Australia (Melbourne) & New Zealand (Christchurch), and research in academia, clinic & industry, he now leads the Edinburgh Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, where he provides the link between Edinburgh’s laboratory discoveries and their clinical development. In the clinic, he runs the Edinburgh Phase I Cancer Trials Unit and recently stepped down from a specialty interest in renal cancer to take on an increased Medical Advisor role in CRUK’s Centre for Drug Development. His research spans cytotoxic, small molecule, metabolic and even psychological therapies, but his main focus is immunotherapies, where he is the clinical lead for the Edinburgh Cancer Immunology network.

Professor of Medical Oncology and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology; Clinical Director, CRUK Scotland Centre; Director, Nicola Murray Centre for Ovarian Cancer Research.
Prof. Gourley graduated with Genetics and Medicine degrees from Glasgow University, UK, in 1991 and 1994, respectively. From 1998 to 2005, he trained in medical oncology at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre, UK, during which he was awarded a PhD in ovarian cancer genetics from the University of Edinburgh and an NHS Education for Scotland Clinician Scientist Award. He was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Medical Oncology at the University of Edinburgh in 2005, Reader in Medical Oncology in 2011 and Professor of Medical Oncology (Personal Chair) in 2012. He received a Scottish Senior Clinical Fellowship Award in 2010. He became Director of the Nicola Murray Centre for Ovarian Cancer Research in 2016, Clinical Director of the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Edinburgh Centre in 2019 and Clinical Director of the Cancer Research UK Scotland Centre in 2022. He is a member of the CRUK Clinical Research Committee, the German Cancer Aid Scientific Review Committee and the International Clinical Cancer Research Committee, Institute National du Cancer, France.
Prof. Gourley's clinical research focus is ovarian cancer clinical trials. He was UK Lead for the SOLO1 trial, which led to the first-line licence for olaparib in BRCA-mutant ovarian cancer, and for the GOG281/LOGS trial of trametinib, which is the first positive randomised controlled trial in low-grade serous ovarian cancer.
His translational research focuses on genomic characterisation of ovarian cancer in order to facilitate the discovery of biomarkers of ovarian cancer drug sensitivity and resistance. His current priorities include whole-genome sequencing of ovarian cancer tumours from across Scotland in order to improve patient selection for novel therapies and exomic sequencing of low-grade serous ovarian cancers from patients recruited into the GOG281/LOGS study in order to improve patient selection for MEK inhibition. His research group have also recently reported a comprehensive genomic characterisation of endometrioid ovarian cancer.

Dr Brown undertook his medical oncology training in Edinburgh, completed a Clinical Fellowship in Toronto, Canada and then completed a PhD in translational melanoma research with the University of Edinburgh. He has been a Consultant in Medical Oncology at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre since 2009. His main clinical interests are colorectal cancer, melanoma, clinical trials and global oncology. Dr Brown is UK Chief Investigator for several clinical trials in melanoma, Chair of the Melanoma SIGN Guideline group, and Clinical Lead for SACT Services for South-East Scotland. His work is supported by an NHS Research Scotland Career Researcher Award (2013-2023).

Dr Clive undertook her undergraduate medical training at the University of Aberdeen, qualifying in 1992. During her graduate medical training she worked in Aberdeen and Inverness. Her specialist oncology training has been in Edinburgh, initially as lecturer then as specialty registrar. During her training, she undertook three years of postgraduate research with the Imperial Cancer Research Fund under the supervision of Professor Duncan Jodrell and Professor David Webb, and graduated with an MD in 2001.
Dr Clive completed specialist training in 2005 and has had a substantive consultant post in the Edinburgh Cancer Centre since 2007. Her main clinical specialities of interest have been in the medical management of colorectal cancer and in cancers of unknown primary. She has a keen interest in improving patient pathways for those presenting outwith the usual diagnostic routes and in understanding clinical and biological factors to help direct the most appropriate management.
She has maintained an active interest in cancer clinical trials throughout her career, as an NRS clinician, and continues to lead and deliver clinical trials in all her clinical areas of interest, with the overarching aim of improving outcomes for patients.
She also has an interest in cancer medicines governance, was chair of the Cancer Therapeutics Advisory Committee for many years, has led and contributed to local, regional and national SACT groups and currently chairs the National Cancer Medicines Advisory Group.
For leisure she enjoys hill walking (climbing my last Munro in 2022), running, cycling, triathlon, visiting new places and spending time with my family, friends and dog.
