Dr Hall is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre since Feb 2023.

He studied Biomedical Science at Kings College, London, graduating in 2003 before studying Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated in 2008. As a junior doctor, he sat on the Scottish Government National Do Not Attempt Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (DNACPR) policy working group and has enjoyed mixing clinical with academic work throughout his career. Dr Hall has published papers on DNACPR policies and conversations, QI work on improving access to patient Key Information Summaries (KIS) at the front door. Latterly, he completed an MD and published papers on rehabilitative Palliative Medicine with the University of Edinburgh and St Columba’s Hospice, running a randomised control trial of an exercise and nutritional rehabilitation programme for people with advanced cancer. His role within the Hospital Palliative Care Team includes provision of support at the ‘front door’, supporting the acute medical teams with early intervention Palliative Medicine. He believes that incorporating a person’s goals into their care plan is vital for person-centred care.

Outside of Palliative Medicine, Dr Hall loves mountain biking, rowing, walks and bird spotting with family, and enjoy challenges such as the ‘Tough Mudder’ and ‘MacTuff’, any excuse to get muddy really!

Dr Wall completed her medical training in Oxford and then in London.  She subsequently worked as a research fellow for the Imperial Cancer Research Fund where she did her thesis looking at hormonal pathways in ovarian cancer.  She completed her clinical oncology training in Edinburgh and has worked as a Consultant Medical Oncologist since 2002, covering upper GI cancers, GISTs and endocrine tumours.

Dr Mackean has been a consultant in medical oncology at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre since 1998 and is also an honorary senior lecturer at Edinburgh University, with a special interest in lung cancer. Her interest in lung cancer started as a medical student with a pathology project. She initially was a respiratory registrar but then trained in oncology at the Beaston in Glasgow. Her MD thesis was in cisplatin chemotherapy resistance. She is an active clinical investigator leading locally on over 25 clinical trials in lung cancer. She is currently chair for the Southeast Scotland Cancer Network lung cancer group. She is an expert advisor to the Scottish Government on the Less Survival Cancers Group and the Cancer Screening Committee (SEAG). She is an expert advisor to the Roy Castle Foundation charity and a member of the UK Clinical Expert Group for Lung cancer and Mesothelioma. Dr Mackean Mb ChB (hons), MD, MSc, FRCP.

Dr Dawson was attracted to oncology as a career while she was a medical student and initially considered training in palliative medicine.
However, oncology experience as a junior doctor at the Beatson Oncology Centre in Glasgow and the Royal Marsden Hospital confirmed that medical oncology was the right choice for her.
She came back to Edinburgh for her specialty training in medical oncology and became a consultant at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre in August 2003.
She specialises in the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre and also has a weekly out-patient clinic at St John's Hospital in Livingston.
Dr Dawson also has a significant interest in medical education and training and having had a variety of teaching and training roles, currently spends part of her week as the Associate Director for Medical Education at the Western General Hospital. She also organises the weekly online NHS Lothian Grand Rounds which became a very useful resource during Covid and now covers a range of topics with speakers from primary to tertiary care and relevant non-NHS organisations.

Dr Christie graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2005, then trained in Aberdeen, New Zealand, Glasgow and Edinburgh, completing his medical oncology training in 2015. He was appointed as a consultant in the Edinburgh Cancer Centre in October 2015, specialising in the treatment of cancers of the pancreas, liver, bile ducts and upper GI tract. He is actively involved in running clinical trials for pancreatic, liver and biliary cancer, and is a clinical supervisor for specialty training doctors at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre.

Dr Bentley has been a Palliative Medicine Consultant since 2007 and joined the Palliative Care Team at the Western General Hospital in 2011. She trained in Oncology before transferring to Palliative Medicine. She has a particular interest in medical training and is currently the South East Scotland’s training lead for Palliative Medicine, and Chair of the Oncology Ward Management group.
Dr Bentley's finest achievements are having 3 children under 2yrs whilst a trainee and completing the RSA power boating course!
